Detailed Description

While the first No Name release from Compass Box was its peatiest whisky to date, No Name 2 is a somewhat more refined expression, mirrored by the slightly more colourful bottle decoration. Don't be fooled, it's still a fabulously peaty treat marrying Island single malts, the first a sherry-matured Caol Ila, the second from Talisker aged in recharred American oak hogsheads. Finally, single malt from Clynelish was added alongside a mystery Highland malt blend which was aged in French oak. At 48.9% ABV, it's packed full of peat without being overpowering, letting some of the more delicate nuances shine through.

Compass Box No Name No.2 Blended Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: Loads of smoky peat aromas, balanced by dried cherry and prune sweetness, a sweet floral note and a touch of bonfire smoke with a waxy citrus peel.

Palate: Sweet and smoky intertwine with smoked meats, a hint of salt, oak char and dried fruit notes, with fresh, ripe cherries.

Finish: Rock salt and maritime smoke with a dash of red fruit and a dry oaky finish.

Distillery Information

Back in 2000, John Glaser believed there were too many companies making and selling Scotch whisky the same way. An American, transplanted to the UK and working for a large distiller, he wanted to do things differently to bring the joys of Scotch whisky to more people. So, he set up a different kind of Scotch whisky company, based on the long-lost model of the Scotch whisky blending house, but with a forward-looking approach and an unrelenting desire to create quality. He originally launched the business from his kitchen, but today, over a decade later, Compass Box has an office and Blending Room in London, its own stocks of maturing whiskies in Scotland, and just over a dozen employees. In an industry that has steadfastly remained committed to ‘the way we’ve always done things’, at Compass Box we focus relentlessly on creativity, process innovations, and exploring the many ways we all can enjoy the pleasures of Scotch whisky. With more spectrum of flavour and style than any other spirit, we believe Scotch whisky is one of the world’s great drinks. We're here to help ensure it stays that way for generations to come.
