Detailed Description

Situated on the site of a listed flour mill in New South Wales, Australia's Corowa distillery was founded in 2010 after a pair of locals had the vision to transform the site and save it from ruin. The flour mill was purchased from the local council for just one dollar, along with the promise to set up a distillery, and put their small town on the map. That momentous occasion is pictured on the label of this release, which joins the Return to Oz collection from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. There's also a deadly funnel-spider on the label, so watch out. Distilled from locally grown barley, this single malt was treated to a four-year stay in casks that previously held Australian tawny wine – a fortified wine similar to Port. Corowa sits in the heart of the Rutherglen wine region, meaning there are plenty of cracking casks to hand!

Distillery Information

The Corowa Distilling Co. was established in 2010 and is located at 20-24 Steel St, Corowa NSW. Its founder, Dean Druce was brought up learning the family business of chocolate, wheat and liquorice in the small town of Junee, NSW. Dean and his father Neil have long shared an appreciation for quality whisky and learnt their craft from the well-known master distillers of Scotland. The distillery is situated inside an abandoned flour mill purchased for $1.00 off the local council with the condition that it be restored to its former glory. The restored flour mill is also home to the Corowa Chocolate. It just doesn’t get better than whisky and chocolate production under the same roof. Master Distiller (Beau Achlig) is a welcome addition to the distillery as a bona fide local having been born and bred in the region giving the Corowa Distilling Co. a real connection with their local community. One of the distilleries aims is to create more jobs in and around Corowa and help stimulate the local economy through tourism. So far, 25 new jobs have been created to install their new still at the distillery. Over 100 casks were rested in 2016 and we’re looking forward to these whiskies becoming available from late 2018 and onwards.
