        Producer Information

Nobilo is a prominent New Zealand wine producer. Its first vines were planted in the Auckland subregion of Kumeu in 1943 by Croatian immigrants Nikola and Zuva Nobilo, making it one of New Zealand's pioneering wineries. Today, Nobilo makes a range of wines from classic New Zealand varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but it is best known for its Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough. The estate was one of several wineries established by Croatian immigrants in Auckland (along with Babich, Villa Maria and Matua Valley), which collectively served as an early backbone for the New Zealand wine industry. Nobilo is widely credited with leading the move away from hybrid grapes to higher-quality varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, and with introducing New Zealanders to wine. Nobilo has vineyards in several key regions, including Central Otago, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay. However, the most important vineyards are in Marlborough, where Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes for the flagship Icon range are sourced. The Nobilo brand was bought by Australian company BRL Hardy in 2000, which eventually became a part of Constellation Brands. In 2019, Nobilo was sold to E & J Gallo, the world's largest wine company.
