This is a broad, generous Cabernet with incredible depth and complexity. The color is dark from center to rim. The bouquet is highly aromatic with notes of cassis, currants, vanilla and toast. The extended oak aging tamed the tannins and added rich, textural notes to the wine. Thick, round and mouth filling, it is a wine that combines power and grace.

Recently, the 1995 acquitted itself at the top of the group in a tasting of some of the very best 1995s from Napa. This is a sensational wine that is blended from different top vineyard sources in Sonoma Valley. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Speciale, which spent 30 months in oak before being bottled unfiltered, has a deep ruby/purple color and a gorgeous nose of cedar, crushed rocks, black cherry, and cassis, with some licorice and roasted herbs. The wine has fabulous intensity, a full-bodied, opulent palate, ripe tannin, and a long 50-second finish. Arrowood made just under 2,100 cases of this superb wine, and for the price, it is a relatively good value in high-end northern California Cabernet.

Producer Information

Arrowood Vineyards and Winery is a Californian producer located in Sonoma Valley. It specializes in a range of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines from some of Sonoma's most famous appellations, including Knights Valley, Alexander Valley and Moon Mountain. A majority of Arrowood's collection is sourced through long-term growing contracts with the proprietors of some of the top vineyards in Sonoma, including Monte Rosso on Moon Mountain and Smothers-Remick Ridge on Sonoma Mountain amoungst others. The estate's flagship wine, Réserve Spéciale, is a blend of the best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from some of these vineyards as well as Arrowood's estate vineyards. The winery and estate vineyard is located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains in a sheltered, 3 hectare (8 acre) property. This vineyard is planted to Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Viognier.
