Size: 750ml

ABV: 14%

    Country/Region: Australia, Barossa Valley

      Detailed Description

Smells almost Port-like, with expansive aromas of fruit cake, maple syrup and chocolate, then delivers a similar array of flavors, although completely dry. Full-bodied, lush and richly textured, this is almost too much, although the intriguing spice notes of cinnamon, clove and allspice help rein in the waves of chocolate and dried fruit. Long, velvety and slightly warm on the finish.

        Producer Information

Greenock Creek Wines is a small producer located between the towns of Seppeltsfield and Greenock in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia. The estate produces several wines from Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, as well as a Grenache. The flagship wines are the Roennfeldt Road Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, which are prized for their intense fruit and considerable structure. All the wines are made from the estate's own fruit. The Roennfeldt Road property is the smallest part of the estate, and has low-yielding vines that are around 80 years old. The Cornerstone Grenache comes from similarly aged vines, whereas the Alices Shiraz, Apricot Block and Seven Acre Shiraz, and the generic Cabernet Sauvignon come from vineyards planted by the estate between 1989 and 1997. Wines are basket pressed before being vinified in cement open-top fermenters. The Roennfeldt Road wines are aged for 36 months in oak hogsheads – the Shiraz in American oak, the Cabernet Sauvignon in French. These then see a further 24 months in bottle before release. Even the "junior" Shiraz and Cabernet wines see 27 months in oak, with 12-15 months for the Grenache. Established in 1984 by Michael Waugh, Greenock Creek have grown to become a stalwart wine producer of the Barossa Valley.
