2010 | Castiglion del Bosco | Zodiac Monkey Special Edition Brunello di Montalcino (Magnum)

This limited edition Brunello di Montalcino forms part of the prestigious Zodiac collection, and has an iconic label design by the artist Wang Mai, featuring a monkey in two different labels that show effects and techniques borrowed by Italian and Chinese frescoes to celebrate the Year of the Monkey.The 2010 release is made from 100% Sangiovese grown at 450 m.a.s.l. in soils rich in shale and marl. The wine is aged for 36 months in French oak, followed by a further 6 months in concrete tanks. A full bodied red with rich red berried and plum character mingling with balsamic and mineral notes, together with soft tannins and a long, evolving finish.

Castiglion del Bosco is a Tuscan producer in the northwest of the Montalcino appellation. It cultivates an estate of entirely Sangiovese for its Brunello and Rosso de Montalcino wine portfolio.The Bosco property covers 2000 hectares of land with 62ha (153.2 acres) of vineyards planted entirely to Sangiovese. The vines are divided into two distinct plots – the 20ha Gauggiole vineyard and the 42ha Capanna vineyard. An elevation between 250 and 460 metres (820 to 1509 feet) allows for wind penetration into the canopy as well as a diurnal temperature shift to encourage ripening.
