      Detailed Description

Firm dense nose, with a light toastiness. Taut attack, racy and concentrated, with a lifted and assertive character supported by a fine acidity that gives tension to the wine. Excellent length and displays a discreet grandeur.Bright, pale yellow. Vibrant aromas of lime, peach, wild herbs and metallic minerality. Distinctly plush, broad and seamless but not at all exotic, with a firm spine of lemon-limey acidity and piquant crushed-stone minerality leavening the wine's fruit sweetness. In fact, this broad, very long grand cru finishes classically dry, with a strong impression of chewy extract.

        Reviews:

        • Allen Meadows: Mild if not invisible wood influence frames the restrained, fresh and admirably pure white flower, wet stone and whisper of sea breeze-inflected aromas. There is fine richness to the refined and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent intensity and length on the citrus-suffused finish where a touch of lemon rind appears.
        • John Gilman: The 2015 Blanchot from Domaine Raveneau is a beautiful wine, with all of the customary elegance of this cru already apparent aromatically and on the palate. The bouquet offers up a very pure and refined mĂ©lange of lemon, pear, beeswax, chalky minerality and a potpourri of floral tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and focused, with a lovely core, fine balance and a very long, vibrant and zesty finish.

        Producer Information

Domaine François Raveneau is a noted producer based in the Burgundy subregion of Chablis, where the small plots of Chardonnay produce some of the appellation's most sought-after wines. The domaine was founded in 1948, when François Raveneau and his wife combined their families' vineyard holdings. He was the first of his family to bottle wines made from the grapes from his vineyards – prior to this the grapes had been sold off to other producers. Today the domaine has eight hectares (20 acres) of land spread across three grand cru and six premier cru sites in Chablis. It is run by François' sons: Bernard and Jean-Marie. Domaine François Raveneau has small plots in grand cru sites Blanchot, Les Clos and Valmur and premier cru sites MontĂ©e de Tonnerre, Les Vaillons, Butteaux, Chapelot, Montmains, and ForĂȘt. Most of these sites are planted on southwest-facing valley slopes, which allow for maximum sun exposure and ripening. These vineyards are planted Kimmeridgian clay and limestone soils, which are typical of the region. The vines are on average 30 years old, with those in the MontĂ©e de Tonnerre Premier Cru having an average age of 50. The grapes are all harvested by hand and then fermented with indigenous yeasts. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels, and then the wines are aged for an extended period of time.
