      Detailed Description

This spicy, smoky wine has layers of black fruits, ripe tannins and a juicy finish of acidity. It is already delicious, complex and full of further potential.

      Reviews:

      • Vinous: The 2017 Montlandrie was picked from 20 to 26 September for the Merlot and 28 September for the Cabernets, and matured in 40% new oak. It has a small reduction on the nose at the moment, but that will disappear with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very silky in texture with hints of Indian and brown spices towards the elegant finish. Approachable in style, drink this over the next decade. Drink 2020-2030.
      • James Suckling: Fascinating aromas of white pepper, dark berries, dark chocolate and dried flowers. Medium-bodied, tight and tannic, yet the tannins are fine and angular. Bright acidity. Shows drive and focus. Extremely well done. Better after 2022.

      Producer Information

Not much is known about the history of Château Montlandrie. There is evidence that it was started by an Italian family, and was committed more to agriculture rather than winemaking, however that all changed in 2009 when it was purchased by the legendary Denis Durantou, owner of Eglise-Clinet. It was his first purchase in the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Although he sadly passed away in 2020, the reins have been taken by his three daughters, Constance, Alix and Noémie and the estate remains one to watch. The 12 hectares are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and there is also a touch of Malbec planted by Denis to reflect the changing climate of Bordeaux due to climate change. The soils have a lot in common with the top St-Emilion vineyards and elevation and the potential is clear from the quality of Montlandrie.
