Colour: Deep ruby red, light garnet tinges. Nose: Rare, complex notes: plums and blueberries, sweet spices, bay, juniper, tobacco and chocolate. Palate: rich, warm, mellow, fruity and spicy notes, suave tannins.
Producer Information
Cantina Santadi (also known as Cantina di Santadi) is a wine producer based in the southwestern corner of Sardinia, some 60km (40 miles) west of Cagliari, the main town of the Italian island. The estate was founded in 1960 as a cooperative of grape growers coordinated by the Land Reform Board of Sardinia (ETFAS). Since then, it has championed local grape varieties – the red grape variety Carignano, and white grape varieties including Vermentino, Nuragus and Nasco. The majority of wines produced by Cantina Santadi are regionally (DOC or PDO) certified, including the standard wines and the superior Carignano del Sulcis wines. Other labels in the range hold the more broad IGT and PGI statuses. The estate also produces a Grappa from Carignano pomace and a fortified wine from a blend of red grape varieties.
