This has a gorgeous core of acidity / minerality with the pleasant notes of toast and fruit. The nose opens with a note of golden apple with just there spice and a focused and wet stones. The palate is just shy of moderate in weight with great minerality, golden apple and toast notes.

Producer Information

This domaine has been working biodynamically since 2000. In a region where the tendency is to continually shy away from natural farming, this represents an extreme outlier. I’ve had the wines on rare occasions over the years, but my first real exposure was at the domaine this year when I got to taste one of the only verticals he’s ever poured. For the first time in my life I was really moved by a line up of Champagne, as a wine. All the base wines go through malo and are fermented with natural yeasts. They just have more weight and personality than my general perspective of Champagne and without the steroid effect of dosage. As an entrance into a big world of which I’m poorly versed, starting with Léclapart is about as good a place as I can imagine.
