      Reviews:

      • Wine Enthusiast: Aromas of red berry, blue flower and whiffs of oak-driven spice take shape in the glass. The palate is almost ethereally elegant, featuring crushed raspberry, sour cherry, star anise and ground clove accompanied by taut, refined tannins.
      • James Suckling: A broad, powerful version, sporting rose, plum, cherry, earth and sanguine aromas and flavors. This is backed by vivid acidity as much as dense tannins, ending with echoes of rose, cherry and mineral.

      Producer Information

Giovanni Rosso is an Italian wine producer that makes Barolo wines from the commune of Serralunga d'Alba. It produces a range of Barolo DOCG wines from some of its top crus, as well as Barbera d'Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo and Dolcetto d'Alba wines. Since the 1890s, the Rosso family has farmed vineyards at some of Serralunga's most historically important sites, including La Serra, Broglio, Damaino, Vigna Rionda, Cerretta and Sorano. The estate began bottling wines under the label 'Giovanni Rosso' in the 1990s and today, Giovanni's son Davide manages the estate. The estate consists of 12 different plots of vineyard land in Serralunga, as well as the Valle del Mondo vineyard in the commune of Roddino. The soil types vary across these sites, from calcareous clay and marl to limestone and sand. The crown jewel of the producer's vineyard holdings is its tiny plot in the Vigna Rionda vineyard, a site often considered to be Barolo's equivalent to the famous Romanée-Conti vineyard in Burgundy. The vines, which were planted in 1946, were acquired by Giovanni Rosso in 2011.
