      Reviews:

      • Wine Enthusiast: Made with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this has aromas of French oak, cedar and black-skinned berry. Lithe and linear, the medium-bodied palate offers cassis, blackberry, coffee bean and ground clove alongside taut, fine-grained tannins.
      • James Suckling: This has a ripe nose of dried cherries, stewed plums, grilled herbs, menthol and mocha. Medium to full body with ripe, round tannins. Juicy and soft finish. Merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon.

      Producer Information

I Collazzi is a Tuscan wine estate situated just south of the city of Florence. The 400-hectare (988-acre) estate has been owned by the Marchi brothers since 1933, and makes a range of mainly red Toscana IGT wines, as well as a single Chianti Classico. The estate comprises 25 hectares (62 acres) of vineyards that are mainly planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with smaller quantities of Sangiovese and Fiano. The soils generally consist of rocks, sand and clay, and are rich in limestone. The vineyards are planted on a natural amphitheater that provides ideal sun exposure and optimal ripening conditions for grape cultivation. I Collazzi's portfolio includes three red Toscana IGT wines, as well as a single white wine made from Fiano that falls under the same classification. The flagship wine, known simply as Collazzi, is a classic Bordeaux blend made of hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Each grape variety is vinified separately and fermented in stainless steel tanks before maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 50 percent new French oak and is barrel-matured for 18 months. The estate's Chianti Classico, I Bastioni, is produced using a similar winemaking process to Collazzi, but spends less time in oak. I Bastioni was first produced in 2002 and is made from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot grapes hand-harvested from a seven-hectare (17-acre) southwest-facing vineyard in the town of San Casciano. I Collazzi produces an extra virgin olive oil from 120 hectares (297 acres) of olive trees, and also makes a limited amount of organic honey.
