Mid lemon yellow, a complex nose. The palate is well balanced with good weight, quite pithy and lightly spiced, touches of lime and Conference pear towards the finish.

• Wine Advocate: Exhibiting notes of pear, green apple, toasted hazelnuts, fresh pastry and white flowers, the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc is medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a rich but vibrant profile. It was bottled under Diam 10. Géraldine Godot told me that all Domaine de l'Arlot's wines in the 2020 vintage came in above 14% alcohol and that she retained appreciable percentages of stems in this vintage. Harvest began on August 25. Tasted from preprepared samples, these were rich, powerful wines that are more muscular in style than the domaine's 2019s.

• Burghound: Here too there is a subtle application of wood framing the vaguely exotic aromas of lemon, apple and straw. The delicious and plump, even caressing, flavors retain very good punch on the mineral-driven, intense and citrusy finish that is exceptionally dry, indeed to the point that this is currently mildly austere.

Producer Information

Domaine de l'Arlot is a Burgundy producer in the Côte de Nuits known for its Pinot Noir from select vineyard sites. It is based just south of the township of Nuits Saint-Georges and has vines in several prestigious vineyards including in two premier cru monopole vineyards – Clos de Forets Saint-Georges and Clos de l'Arlot. The l'Arlot vineyard was established in the 18th Century when the owner of the property built the encircling wall. Domaine de l'Arlot was expanded by the négociant Jules Belin after he bought it in 1891. The modern incarnation stems from the sale of the property by Belin's heirs to French investment firm AXA Millésimes, which also owns several other wine estates including Château Pichon-Longueville Baron in Bordeaux. AXA further expanded Domaine de l'Arlot's holdings with plots in the premier cru Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots vineyard and the grand cru Romanée Saint-Vivant. Pinot Noir is the dominant variety across most of the domaine's vineyard holdings, and accounts for its best-known wines. Domaine de l'Arlot also makes small amounts of Chardonnay, including a rare example from Clos de l'Arlot. Farming practices have been organic since 2000 and biodynamic since 2003.
