2020 | Domaine Henri Boillot | Bourgogne Chardonnay

Pale lemon and lime, slight sandalwood to the nose. Pure and crisp with a lemon and salty finish, excellent density a little barrel toast. Long finish. This Bourgogne Chardonnay shows typical Boillot purity and precision.

• Decanter: This is one of the year's best value wines, with bright, lemony fruit and fresh floral notes, uncomplicated by heavy oak spice since no new casks were used in the fermentation. Although this is produced from purchased grapes and must, it receives the same care as the domaine-bottled selections. Surprisingly light and fresh for the vintage, the Boillot Bourgogne Blanc provides plenty of crisp, refreshing pleasure at a remarkably accessible price point.

• Wine Spectator: A smoky mix of apple, pear and citrus leads to solidly voluminous and intense middle weight flavors that conclude in an appealingly crisp, clean and very dry finale. This is a very good Bourgogne that should also be capable of repaying a few years of keeping if desired

Domaine Henri Boillot is a wine producer based in Meursault known for its red and white wines from Côtes de Beaune appellations.The estate was named Domaine Jean Boillot until 2005, but was changed when Henri Boillot bought out his siblings in order to distinguish it from his brother's new Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot. Henri had previously set up Maison Henri Boillot for négociant wines and retains these labels to distinguish them from estate wines.A majority of Boillot's white wines are sourced from premier crus in Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, including the entire 4 hectare (10 ac) Clos de la Mouchere vineyard. The domaine's Pinot Noir-based wines come from premier crus in Savigny, Beaune and Volnay. In the vineyard, Boillot avoids the use of insecticides and herbicides. Heavy pruning takes place in spring to limit yields and fruit is harvested as late as possible to ensure maximum phenolic maturity.
