Detailed Description

Benromach 18 Year Old 1976 is a mature vintage Speyside single malt bottled independently by Hart Brothers, distilled in 1976 and matured for 18 years. The whisky comes from an important historical period for Benromach, when its spirit was produced on a small scale before the distillery's later revival. Extended maturation brings layers of dried orchard fruit, honey, vanilla, citrus, nuts, sweet malt, and gentle oak spice, with a subtle earthy character adding complexity. A rare vintage expression offering a fascinating glimpse into Benromach's earlier style and a valuable addition to a collection of historic Speyside malts.

Distillery Information

Benromach Distillery was founded in 1898 near Forres in Speyside and has experienced several periods of closure throughout its history. The distillery remained relatively small and changed ownership numerous times before being acquired by Gordon & MacPhail in 1993, who restored it and restarted production in 1998. Benromach has developed a distinctive house style combining traditional Speyside fruit and malt with a subtle level of peat smoke, reflecting older whisky-making traditions. Today, the distillery remains independently owned by Gordon & MacPhail and is known for producing handcrafted single malt in relatively small batches.
