Distillery Information

Paul Masson is an American brand of wine and brandy. The range of California Carafe wines, popular in the 1970s and closely associated with the "relaxed" performances of Orson Welles in the television commercials, are still available, principally in the US. Burgundian Paul Masson (1859-1940) was a pioneer of Californian viticulture. He worked there initially in 1878 for a couple of years, then returned to the USA for good when the French wine industry was destroyed by phylloxera. The first Paul Masson release was a "Champagne" in 1892, and Masson eventually earned the title "the Champagne King of California".
