Port Ellen 1982 Scotch Single Malt Circle (MC) 29 Years Old Tasting Notes
Nose: With grassy aromas , this port Ellen shows more of its gentle side. A good deal of peat smoke, as well as one is close to the fresh and damp soil on the nose. Citrus notes and a decent portion of malt soil complete the picture.
Palate: Somewhat stronger or more youthful than in the nose, while bringing out some sweetener. However, by no means consistently sweet.
Finish: Surprisingly long and shows a beautiful spiciness.
Distillery Information
The Port Ellen distillery was founded in 1825 by Alexander Ker Mackay. The distillery lies not far from the centre of its namesake town, Islay’s main port, and draws its waters from the Leorin Lochs. John Ramsay, a local Member of Parliament, acquired the distillery after Mackay went into bankruptcy. Ramsay was a leader in his field and recognised the opportunities that exportation to America could offer.
