Distillery Information

Tomatin Distillery is one of Scotland's whisky distilleries, located in the Highlands near Inverness. It was founded in 1897 at the peak of the Victorian whisky boom. Tomatin Legacy – labelled as Dualchas in the USA – is the "standard" expression produced at the distillery. The core range is generally aged in a combination of Sherry and Bourbon barrels and also includes 12-, 14-, 18- and 36-year old whiskies, plus the Cask Strength edition launched in 2015. There is also a wide array of limited editions including various wood finishes and vintage-dated single cask releases. Tomatin translates to "hill of the juniper bush". During the Temperance Act, juniper wood was very popular for heating illegal stills, as it does not smoke and therefore, not alert the authorities. Tomatin's remote location at more than 300 meters (1000 feet) up on the eastern edge of the Monadhliath mountains served as a host to cattle drovers who would stop to refill their flasks.
