      Detailed Description

Plenty of honeyed peach and nectarine notes emerge from the 2019 Château Carbonnieux Blanc. This nicely textured, medium-bodied white has good concentration, well-integrated acidity, and a clean, balanced style that's going to drink nicely out of the gate.

        Reviews:

        • Decanter: A great Carbonnieux, with careful balance of juicy, salt-edged minerality and creamy nectarine and apricot fruits. Always a real highlight of the whites of the appellation and delivering another hit in 2019. Tasted twice two weeks apart. A yield of 40hl/ha.
        • Vinous: The 2019 Carbonnieux Blanc was picked from 29 August to 18 September at 42hl/ha and aged in 25% new oak. It has an intense bouquet with lime zest, peach skin and beeswax scents, nicely focused with good attack. The palate is very well balanced with lovely pineapple and orange pith notes on the entry. Very cohesive with a tangy and vigorous finish. Excellent.

        Producer Information

The history of Carbonnieux goes back a very long way, and records show that wine was made there at least as early as the 12th century. Benedictine monks from Sainte-Croix abbey in Bordeaux replanted and renovated the estate in the 18th century. They took advantage of the exceptionally pale, clear color of the white wine to label it as "Carbonnieux mineral water", which they then proceeded to ship to the sultan of Turkey. Marc Perrin acquired and restored the chateau in 1956. His son, Antony, currently manages the estate. The gravelly soil at Carbonnieux is perfectly drained thanks to the Eau Blanche stream that carries away any excess water. The 85 hectares of vines are evenly divided between red and white wine varieties. The white wine is fermented and aged in barrel for 10 months. The red wine is aged for 15 to 18 months in barrel, depending on the quality and characteristics of the vintage.
