- Wine Advocate: Sangiovese-whisperer Alessandro Mori has delivered another superstar wine with the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna Delle Grazie. The bouquet is detailed and fine with bright accents of fragrant red rose, red currant, cola, licorice, grilled herb and crushed white peppercorn. The bouquet is loose, light and buoyant, with a smooth and natural progression of building aromas. The mouthfeel, however, is direct, important and determined. It's that playful juxtaposition between the wine's soft side and its stern side that makes this such an interesting and sensational wine to drink. Only 5,993 bottles were produced, and that's the bad news.
- Vinous: Luminous red. Complex aromas of red cherry, crushed stones, violet, rose and potpourri. Rich, dense and deep, offering flavors similar to the aromas and substantial, noble tannins that provide backbone and a refined austerity. Currently youthfully brooding, this will turn out to be richer, deeper and more complex than the 2013 classic Brunello. As that one is a pretty memorable wine in its own right, itβs easy to see how special the 2012 Madonna delle Grazie might turn out to be. Forget about this beauty in your cellar for another decade or so.

Il Marroneto is a wine producer based in Montalcino, in Italy's Tuscany region. It was founded in 1974 by Giuseppe Mori, and today makes three wines from Sangiovese β two Brunello di Montalcino wines and a Rosso di Montalcino. The Mori family's winery started out as two small rooms that had once been used as drying rooms for chestnuts ("marrone" is a local name for chestnuts) β hence the name of the winery. The original wine cellars date back to 1246 and were expanded in the 1990s by Alessandro Mori, Giuseppe's son, and Il Marroneto's current proprietor. Originally, the estate was supplied by a tiny 0.3 hectares (0.7 acres) of vineyard planted in 1975. Today, the vineyards extend over the mineral-rich, coarse sand soils that lead up to the hilltop town of Montalcino. The slopes face north and reach heights of approximately 1150ft (350m) above sea level. No herbicides or man-made chemicals are used on the vines and intensive farming methods are disregarded. Giuseppe Mori describes himself as a traditionalist and the estate has broadly rejected the use of oak barriques. The wines are fermented in large oak casks before being aged for extended periods in oak botti (large format oak casks, traditionally made of Slavonian oak). The estate's flagship wine is the Brunello di Montalcino Selezione Madonna delle Grazie ("Our Lady of Grace"), a wine that takes its name from the 13th Century church near the estate. It is made from grapes picked from the vineyard that encircle the winery and spends 41 months in oak. Il Marroneto's standard Brunello di Montalcino is aged for 39 months in botti, and the Rosso di Montalcino has just 22 months in oak.
