The history of the prestigious winery, now called Vigneti di Umberto Fracassi Ratti Mentone, starts in the mid-1800s when the owner of the vineyards, the Countess Maddalena Ratti Mentone, marries the descendant of an important family of rice growers from Vercelli, Marcello Fracassi di Trino, mayor of this town at the time of Camillo Benso, count of Cavour. Marcello Fracassi, a lawyer, was in fact sent as Praetor to Cherasco where he met and married the noblewoman. Subsequently, the heirs of the Fracassi Ratti Mentone family obtained the title of Marquis of Torre Rossano from the House of Savoy. It was immediately after the war that the Marquis Umberto Fracassi, despite his mother trying to discourage him, took over the reins of the winery to continue the family tradition. Family traditions that date back to the 1200s and have always been linked to the Cherasco area.
