        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. Back in 1998, one Robert Parker wrote: "Several years in the bottle could result in an excellent, perhaps outstanding Latour-à-Pomerol." Well, he was right. The 1995 Latour-à-Pomerol has blossomed into a great wine. Initially it seems a little mundane on the nose, but do not be deceived because it unfolds and offers lovely tobacco and cedar notes that might take you to Pessac-Léognan rather than Pomerol. The palate is very well proportioned, quite structured for a 1995 with much more body and substance than its 1996 counterpart. Hints of iodine sweep across the senses towards the finish that again, dupes you into thinking it might be from Pessac-Léognan. Whatever, it is an impressive Pomerol that after two decades is delivering the goods. And you know, it might improve even further. Tasted December 2015.
        • John Gilman: This is a very strong vintage in the commune and the wine offers up a superb bouquet of black cherries, plums, Cuban cigars, gravelly soil tones, a nice touch of spice, hints of the black truffles to come, a dollop of Pomerol herb tones and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and supremely elegant, with a fine core, excellent soil signature, well-integrated, moderate tannins and outstanding length and grip on the complex and focused finish. This is not too far away from its plateau of maturity and is a superb vintage at this estate. Along with the 1998, this is probably the finest Latour à Pomerol of the decade.

        Producer Information

Château Latour à Pomerol is a leading wine estate producing much-coveted wines in the Pomerol appellation of northeastern Bordeaux, on the so-called "right bank" of the Dordogne river. It is named as such to distinguish it from the first growth Château Latour (on the Left Bank of the Garonne estuary in Pauillac). Latour à Pomerol is credited with producing some of Bordeaux's all-time great wines made predominantly from Merlot in the legendary post World War II vintages. More recent vintages were considered variable in quality by many critics, though from 2009 there seems to have been a return to more consistent top form. The estate has eight hectares (20 acres) of vineyards, planted predominantly to Merlot with around 10 percent Cabernet Franc. There are two plots with distinct soils – the best plot is gravel-based while the other has more sandy soils. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. The wines are then matured in small oak barrels, around half of which are new, for around 18 months.
