This is a classic. Not an enormous wine, but with all the finesse and elegance of great Burgundy. The fruit is vibrant, juicily red, bursting through the gentle tannins. The freshness is mouthwatering and vivid.

• Wine Advocate: The 2006 Clos de Tart reflects only a minor inclusion of stems when compared with the 2005, as well as a lighter regimen of pigeage. The ripeness of lightly-cooked black raspberry, cassis, and cherry here pushes in the direction of liqueur or even syrup, with notes of vanilla, lanolin, coconut, and caramel from the (100%) new barrels further contributing to a confectionary personality. This is silken in its sumptuous smoothness and finishes with a vibrant sense of palate-staining fruit intensity and grip. For all the persistent impression of sweetness present, in the end there is brightness as well. Depth here comes via chocolate richness, whereas I would personally have welcomed some signs that mineral or animal mystery was in the offing.

• Vinous: The 2006 Clos de Tart Grand Cru was picked September 27–30 at 26hl/ha, at 13.7° alcohol, and offers a stark contrast to the 2005. It has long been a much broodier proposition, showing more black fruit than red, and almost Bordeaux-like in terms of its light cedar tincture, although here there is less of the licorice element. The tight-fisted, introspective palate demands coaxing from the glass. There is plenty of sinew here, though I wonder whether that comes from Nature or from extended skin maceration – I suspect the latter. This is a bold and demanding Clos des Tart, though I am less enthusiastic than in my previous notes, since the tannins seem to override the terroir more than I originally expected. Clos de Tart is a highly esteemed domaine based on a single grand cru monopole vineyard in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis, in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The estate produces two wines, both from Pinot Noir.Clos de Tart's history dates back to a 12th Century abbey constructed by Cistercian nuns of the Notre Dame de Tart order. The vineyard has remained a monopole ever since.In 2017 the domaine was bought by French billionaire François Pinault for a figure thought to be in excess of €225 million ($260 million). Pinault's investment group, Artemis, owns a host of high-profile domaines across France, including Château Grillet in Château Grillet (Condrieu) and Château Latour in Pauillac, Bordeaux, as well as Araujo Estate in California's Napa Valley.
