      Detailed Description

A touch of liquorice informs a peachy, berry-like fruitiness. The body is creamy but taut, very fresh. It is the texture that makes this stand out, along with a hint of lemon oil. There is more gingerbread spice on the finish and a lovely, zesty vein of pink grapefruit.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Enthusiast: This is the estate wine of Esclans, giving ripe, full fruits with a caramel touch and spicy acidity that zings with activity. The wine's texture, now softened, is still just right to give a bite of pepper at the end. Drink now.
      • James Suckling: Pale rose color with pretty aromas of lavender, rosehip, strawberries, cherries and cloves. It’s medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a supple, creamy palate. Perfumed and elegant. Drink now.

      Producer Information

Château d'Esclans is a wine producer in Provence, specializing in full-bodied, dry rosé wines primarily from the Grenache wine grape variety. The flagship wine is the top-of-the-range Garrus cuvée, which is one of the most important (and highly priced) rosé wines in Provence. It was first produced in 2006 and was met with high acclaim. Since, only tiny quantities of the toasty, full-bodied and highly sought after rosé is made each vintage. It is also reputable for its entry-level Whispering Angel Rosé, which is exported around the world to multiple countries. The château was built in the 12th Century and is located on an elevated site, between Saint-Tropez and Cannes. About 44 hectares (110 ac) here are under vine, with Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsaut, Rolle and Syrah all represented. Some of the Grenache vines at the highest elevations are up to 90 years old, making them some of the oldest in Provence. These low-yielding vines give the d'Esclans wines concentration and richness.
