GlenDronach 1993 Cask #4195 28 Year Old Oloroso Puncheon Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Popping tobacco and dried blueberries at first, it immediately reminded me of the #7274 bottling for France a year ago.
Palate: Dark plums, grape jam, tobacco, and acid from the plum peel strengthened. Grape seeds were there but not obvious. After a few seconds of chewing, the mouth was full of orange jam and cherry jam with a bit of bittersweet iced black tea.
Finish: Grape jam, some grape seeds, cherry pies, syrup, Portuguese egg tarts and plum peel. The plum and mandarin orange acid lingered. Vanilla ice cream and white chocolate hit back a minute later.
Distillery Information
The GlenDronach distillery lies at the Dronach Burn in the Deveron area. The whisky distillery was founded in 1826, by a syndicate headed by James Allardes. Thanks to the fifth Duke of Gordon, distillation throughout the highlands was legalized in the early 19th century. It is said the duke encouraged the group to build GlenDronach. The distillery changed hands in 1852, to Walter Scott of Teaninich. Following his death, a group from Leith acquired the distillery.
