        Reviews:

        • Burghound: A classic and explosive RSV nose with superbly elegant black fruit aromas that also display hints of dried flowers and stem hints along with the usually Asian spice nuances is followed by still tight, pure, concentrated and intense flavors of outstanding complexity and length. This is dense and still relatively young though not so much that it can't be enjoyed. That said, I would continue to cellar this for another few years though if you're going to try one now it would not be a crime provided that it was decanted for an hour or so first. In sum, this is a dramatic and extremely impressive wine that has it all. Multiple, and mostly consistent, notes though a few bottles have displayed a more pronounced stemminess on the nose that some may find mildly off-putting.
        • Wine Advocate: Tasted blind at The Arches. This bottles delivers so much more than the previous one encountered last December. The bouquet is fresh and vigorous, leafy, mossy with cranberry, perhaps here a nod towards something more “garrigues” in style. The medium-bodied palace has silky smooth texture and is certainly showing more weight, exquisite balance leading to an edgy finish, without the dryness of the last bottle. It certainly deserves a higher score.

        Producer Information

Domaine de la RomanĂ©e-Conti, or DRC as it is commonly known, is easily Burgundy's best-known and most collectible wine producer. Based in the Burgundy village of Vosne-RomanĂ©e, the domaine sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the length of the CĂŽte d'Or. The most famous comes from the eponymous RomanĂ©e-Conti vineyard, and on average is the most expensive wine in the world. The domaine predominately produces Pinot Noir-based wines from 28 hectares (69 acres) of grand cru vineyard. Alongside RomanĂ©e-Conti are La TĂąche, RomanĂ©e-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg in Vosne-RomanĂ©e; plus Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux bottlings. Fruit from Corton-Bressandes, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Renardes is combined in a single Corton Grand Cru red. There are three white (Chardonnay) wines made. Only one of these, the Montrachet is made widely avilable. A BĂątard-Montrachet and a Bourgogne Hautes CĂŽtes de Nuits are not publically distributed. Of course, La RomanĂ©e-Conti is the domaine's most famous asset, and the amount of wine made from less than 2ha (5 acres) of land amounts to just 6000 bottles a year. The vineyard has a long history, dating back to the Abbey of Saint-Vivant in the 13th Century. It took on the RomanĂ©e name in 1631, and the Conti in 1760.Today, DRC is owned in part by the de Villaine family and in part by the Leroy family. Aubert de Villaine is the figurehead of the company now – although it was famously run by Lalou Bize-Leroy for a time, until a dispute saw her ousted from control.
