Producer Information
Over 2000 years of Cahors malbec history are connected to the history of Chateau Chambert. One can trace a portion of its history back to the 10th century by looking through the archives. The Chateau Chambert has been owned by many and has gone through a lot of historical moments. The vineyards covered 300 hectares of land in the 10th century but now it covers about 65 hectares and is owned by Philippe Lejeune. A VIP reception/tasting area, a biodynamic research lab, and a professional kitchen are now part of a new, modern structure suspended over the vineyard. At an elevation of 300 meters, Chambert overlooks the Lot valley from a limestone plateau in southern Quercy, 100 kilometers north of Toulouse and 35 km west of Cahors. The château is surrounded by high-altitude vineyards that are isolated from nearby vines and the city. The slopes' exposure gives the vines enough sunlight, and continental and maritime air currents drive off the morning mist. These characteristics create a space free of pesticides and fungicides, which is a huge advantage while working in organic agriculture.
