White Wine: 2019 | Giant Steps Wine | Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay

Very clean and mineral and fruit driven on the nose, the oak less prominent on this one. Very juicy and ripe in style, though the sharpness of the acid structure gives lovely focus, a rounding touch of barrel character easing the finish.

      Producer Information

Giant Steps was founded in 1997 by Phil Sexton who was joined by winemaker Steve Flamsteed in 2003. Phil was a pioneer in Australia’s craft beer and wine industry, Flammo was a cheesemaker, chef, and winemaker. The winery was named after John Coltrane’s visionary album, Giant Steps (Phil is a mad jazz fan). They joined their skills into creating a home for handmade, beautiful Yarra wines. Phil had planted the Sexton site at Gruyere in 1997, but when he got hold of fruit from the Tarraford Vineyard and then Applejack and Primavera Vineyards in the upper Yarra, that’s when things got really interesting as they begun to develop the single vineyard wines. In 2021, Melanie Chester joined the team as Head of Winemaking and Viticulture to continue the journey to produce wines from distinctive vineyards that showcase the very best of the Yarra Valley region. From the first vintage over 20 years ago, Giant Steps is proud to be known as one of Australia’s best producers of single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
