      Detailed Description

A deep well of açaí berry, blueberry and blackberry reduction flavors holding sway over briar, black tea, melted black licorice and apple wood notes.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The 2019 Ried Singerriedel Riesling Smaragd is clear as well a flinty on the aromatic and concentrated nose that shows stewed white peach aromas. Lush and round on the palate but lao crystalline, this is a salty-piquant, rich and tensioned Singerriedel that is made to age for at least a decade. Impressive wine for the future. 13% alcohol.
        • James Suckling: The super fine, peachy nose with hints of tropical fruit and flowers is hard to resist. Then, it’s very tightly focused and pure on the full-bodied and very concentrated palate. The finish is so silky, making for totally compelling beauty. Not as weighty as some vintages, with just 13% alcohol.

        Producer Information

Weingut Franz Hirtzberger is an Austrian wine estate producing white wines from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling in the Wachau region. In its strong portfolio, it is particularly known for its top-level Smaragd-designated wines, including the flagship Honivogl Grüner Veltliner and the Singerriedel Riesling, which is one of Austria's most highly regarded Riesling wines. The estate is located in Spitz in the far west of the region – an area influenced by cold winds blowing off the mountains to the north. The estate covers 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards, which are split between Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, with smaller amounts planted to Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. The Singerriedel vineyard is the most important of these holdings, and is located on steep, southeast-facing slopes. The Honivogl Grüner Veltliner is sourced from a rocky plot at the bottom. All of the wines are fermented in stainless steel and aged in classic 3000-5000-liter wooden vats.
