Detailed Description
Detailed Description
A deep, dark, vivid purple color holds superbly to the rim. Very opulent dark plum & blackcurrant fruit aromas comprise the nose. The palate is fresh & the tannic structure is supple. Fresh dark-plum fruit on the mid palate is backed by a really fine drying structure that gives cedary hints. Alcohol appears balanced. The long finish has fresh, juicy red-plum fruit.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Aromas of raspberries, cherries, spices and bay leaf introduce the 2022 L'If, a medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy wine that's taut and vibrant, built around lively acids and fine, chalky tannins. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the decision to halve the volume of pump-overs have delivered a suave Saint-Émilion, even in this structured vintage.
- James Suckling: Gorgeous and very fine tannins with a fine velvet texture and wonderful berry, chocolate and hazelnut character. Medium-bodied with round and balanced tannins with serenity and a crunchy finish.
Producer Information
L'If is a Bordeaux Right Bank wine estate in the Saint-Émilion appellation, known for its red wine blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and for its association with Le Pin. The property was purchased by Jacques Thienpont in 2010. Previously, it had been known as Château La Bouygue. The name was changed to echo that of the new owner's famous Pomerol estate. Le Pin is named after a pine tree on the property, while L'If is the French word for a yew tree, which now features prominently on the label. However, presumably to help with pronunciation, the 2010 was labelled Leaf (omitting the yew image) for the US market.
