      Detailed Description

At each harvest there is a great disparity between the parcels of old vines located at the bottom of the hill and those on the hillside. The large square is a plot located at the bottom of the hill from which you can admire our magnificent grassy and wooded hillside.

        • Wine Advocate: At each harvest there is a great disparity between the parcels of old vines located at the bottom of the hill and those on the hillside. The large square is a plot located at the bottom of the hill from which you can admire our magnificent grassy and wooded hillside. I harvest it when ripe first to keep the crunchiness, freshness and fruitiness of the Chardonnays.

          Producer Information

Montgueux is a wine region located in the Cote des Bars area of Champagne known for its pure chalk soil and silex as well as its southeast-facing slopes planted almost entirely with Chardonnay. Oenologist Daniel Thibault from Charles Heidsieck has described Montgueux as "the Montrachet of the Champagne country" due to these characteristics. The soil, from the Cretaceous period, allows for perfect ripening with the right amount of moisture. Over 50% of the fruit grown in Montgueux is sold to top Champagne houses such as Henriot, Louis Roederer, Veuve Clicquot, Charles, and Piper Heidsieck. Helene Beaugrand’s vineyards are kept healthy by a grass cover between the rows. Hélène's careful winemaking techniques and the age of the vineyards result in the production of generous, complex, and highly subtle wines. The vineyards are all 45 years old and allow for malolactic fermentation. No herbicides are used and pesticides are only used in rare cases, and only environmentally friendly ones are selected. With an annual production of 25,000 bottles, Hélène is focused on producing high-quality, terroir-driven wines. Vines were first cultivated on the Montgueux hill in the 12th century, but almost disappeared at the end of the 1800s due to phylloxera. After the First World War, the Beaugrand family was the first to replant the hillsides and Montgueux was granted Champagne AOC status in 1927. The main street in Montgueux is named after Leon Beaugrand in honor of the family's role in achieving AOC status.
