Jamaica 2013 - 1423 Single Barrel Selection | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: The spicy and fruity nose of this rum does not deceive: we are well in Jamaica. Starting with a full-bodied, powdery, almost coppery note, it then flies towards a softer and more pastry-like horizon, on a cushion made of bitter almond, cream and grapes.

Palate: is full-bodied and caramelized like a British Navy rum, with a typical coppery and oily touch. There's also a handful of malty, heavily toasted grains, which this time points to Scotland and its whiskey. All this caramel and wet wood reminds us of "old-fashioned" rums, with tobacco and leather accents.

Finish: opens with a bit more pastry, with pits and old rancio.

Distillery Information

1423 began as a hobby but is now a leading Danish spirit importer and distributor, established in 2008. The business is home to hundreds of rum barrels and helps brands like La Maison du Rhum, Bristol Spirits, and Worthy Park reach a wider consumer base. 1423 also bottles its own rum, beginning with a few hundred bottles of a Barbados-Trinidad blend, which was bottled in November 2008 and released at the beginning of 2009. The number of the sample was 14423, but an error meant it was listed as 1423 which gave the company its name.
