Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin

Launched in March 2017, the Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin is one of the latest additions to the Joseph Magnus family designed to be the perfect base for cocktail making. Each batch begins with a neutral spirit base made from corn which is then steeped a select blend of botanicals including, among others, Italian juniper berries, harissa, figs, fresh mint, fresh lemon, hops, and hibiscus before being distilled, brought to proof, and bottled at a so-called "Navy strength" of 114 proof.

Nose: Each sip of this crystal-clear spirit greets you with an intense nose of lemon peel, spice, cumin, and barbecue-flavored potato chips.

Palate: A medium and rounded palate of dried figs, citrus zest, juniper, mint, angelica root, ginger, and cracked black pepper.

Finish: A smooth and satisfying finish of more juniper notes accented by a pleasing alcohol bite.

Distillery Information

Named after legendary 19th-century distiller Joseph A. Magnus, the current Joseph Magnus brand was established by his great-grandson following his discovery of an heirloom bottle – the first whiskey made by Magnus dated 1892. With the help of old documents and family lore, they managed to recreate the same blending and finishing techniques employed by Magnus during his time as a distillery ensuring that his legacy still lives on in the form exquisite spirit expressions that showcase the flavors of pre-Prohibition America.
