Set in the picturesque Linne Valley on the eastside of Paso Robles, Sculpterra Winery and Sculpture Garden is a popular destination for wine lovers and art enthusiasts alike. The estate is known for its larger-than-life bronze and granite sculptures that grace its tasting room and grounds.
A magnificent granite cat, measuring 14 feet high and weighing 7 tons, greets arriving guests. Entitled “Golden Morning,” the giant cat sculpture was created by the late renowned sculptor and longtime Central Coast resident John Jagger. Alongside the cat stands a new addition sculpted by Artist in Residence Dale Evers. Mega Focus is a 24-foot high, 1 ton bronze and stainless work depicting a man holding a bow and launching himself into the future. “He is launching himself into a bright future, just like Sculpterra,” Dale explains.
The property was first planted with pistachios by Dr. Warren Frankel and his family in the early 1980s, followed by wine grapes in the 1990s. Today the Sculpterra estate consists of 260 acres with 30 acres planted to pistachios and 145 acres planted to vine including Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Franc, Primitivo, Petite Sirah, and Viognier. Dr. Frankel’s son, Paul Frankel, has championed the winemaking effort since the 2008 vintage. “We grow a lot of Cabernet Sauvignon in different vineyards around the estate,” Paul says. “It’s really our strong suit.”
