Red Wine: 2000 | Domaine Anne Gros | Richebourg

Full, deep red. Compelling soil-inflected aromas of berries, cocoa powder, minerals and flowers. Sweet but precise and penetrating, with lovely harmonious acidity. Rigorous but not austere; this makes the Clos Vougeot seem almost jammy by comparison.

      Detailed Description

Full, deep red. Compelling soil-inflected aromas of berries, cocoa powder, minerals and flowers. Sweet but precise and penetrating, with lovely harmonious acidity. Rigorous but not austere; this makes the Clos Vougeot seem almost jammy by comparison. Finishes very long and vibrant, with fine tannins and a degree of thrust that's rare for the vintage. A superb 2000!

        Reviews:

        • Vinous: Very spicy and extremely elegant crushed black fruit and hints of oak toast lead to superbly complex, firm and relatively fine flavors. The palate impression is quite refined and not nearly as robust as classic Richebourg though there is a solid backbone of ripe tannins. Classy, very rich, very complex flavors and a supremely long finish make for a stunner of a wine...Anne Gros said that she realized yields in '00 that were considerably less than in '99; specifically, yields were about 40 hl/ha for the villages and 38 to 39 hl/ha for the premiers and grands crus. Mme Gros began the harvest on the 15th of September and because there were relatively large grapes with less color than she considers ideal, she did more pigeage (punching down of the cap) than normal.
