Good deep red. Knockout, wonderfully expressive nose combines dark raspberry, musky coffee, mocha and underbrush. Big, rich, powerful and classically dry, with a strong brown spice component currently dominating the mouth.

• Vinous: The 2006 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is a wine of pedigree, nuance and stylishness. Fresh and vibrant in the glass, the 2016 is developing beautifully in bottle. Sweet floral notes add lift to the dark Cannubi Boschis fruit. Sandrone's Cannubi Boschis has never been this finessed, this elegant. This is the best bottle of the 2006 I have tasted. What a head-turner it is!

• Wine Advocate: The 2006 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is seductive, round and sweet in its ripe dark fruit. The wine continues to gain weight in the glass, showing a level of density that nearly manages to cover the tannins. Floral notes add lift on the finish. This is a powerful, linear Cannubi Boschis with tons of energy and muscle, but it will require quite a bit of patience. Sandrone harvests his three parcels in Cannubi Boschis separately. Vinification takes place in stainless steel. The wines undergo malolactic fermentation and are aged in 500-liter barrels (roughly 20% new) for a year. Once the final blend is assembled, the wine goes back into oak for another year prior to being bottled in the spring. Sandrone is one of the earliest producers to bottle, which he does to preserve as much freshness as possible.

Producer Information

Azienda Agricola Luciano Sandrone is an Italian wine producer of Piedmont, particularly known for its red wines from the Nebbiolo grape. The Sandrone estate was founded in 1978, a year after after Luciano Sandrone had bought a small parcel of the Cannubi vineyard. Initially, wines were made in the garage of his parents' house. A trip to Vinitaly in 1982 allowed Luciano to sell all of his 1978 Barolo to a US distributor, providing the starting point for a long, slow period of growth as additional Cannubi plots and other vineyards were purchased. The wine portfolio focuses on indigenous grape varieties of the region including Dolcetto and Barbera. The flagship wine is the Vite Talin, a Barolo DOCG first released in 2019. It is fermented in wooden casks prior to ageing for six years in both French oak and in the bottle prior to release. Grapes are sourced from the Le Coste di Barolo vineyard of which has been developed through massal selection over multiple generations. In the winery, all fermentations are spontaneous through the use of indigenous yeasts. Grapes are vinified seperately by variety as well as by individual plot to allow for more control in the blending process. Other wines in the collection include a Nebbiolo d'Alba, a Dolcetto d'Alba and a Barbera d'Alba.
