Barrel Sample. Dominated by Merlot, this is a richly perfumed, ripe and spicy wine. Soft tannins are balanced by plenty of acidity and blackberry fruit. It's full in structure, but still allows plenty of room for the fruit.

- James Suckling: A delicious and fresh St.-Emilion with ripe blackberries and a subtle, mineral note that shows clearly on the long, crisp, and juicy finish. Second wine of Château Quintus.
Producer Information
Château Quintus is a well-regarded Saint-Emilion estate established by Domaine Clarence Dillon (which runs the Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Haut-Brion and neighbor La Mission Haut-Brion) in 2011. Quintus lies southwest of St-Emilion town, on a prominent spur of the southern escarpment that delimits the region's best winegrowing land, looking out onto the Dordogne river valley. The spur is so prominent that for centuries it was a known watchtower point called the "terte du guet" (look-out hill). This reportedly lent the original property, Château Tertre-Daugay, its name. Tertre-Daugay, which was a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé (albeit demoted in 2006 and re-established in 2010), was run by the Malet-Roquefort family (which owns Château La Gaffelière) until its takeover by Domaine Clarence Dillon in 2011. The property was renamed Château Quintus as it was the fifth estate to enter the Dillon portfolio. Although the Dillon portfolio expanded in August 2021 with the acquisition of Château Grand Pontet (another Saint-Emilion property), it is understood the purchase was made to extended Quintus' vineyard holdings. Grand Pontet lies about 2km (1.2 miles) due north of Château Quintus, firmly on the Saint-Emilion plateau, just to the west of Saint-Emilion town. The 28-hectare (69 acre) Quintus property produces three wines. Both the grand vin and the second wine, Le Dragon de Quintus, have been produced since 2011. A third label, Saint-Emilion de Quintus, was launched in 2014. Château Quintus is produced from a classic right-bank combination of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Proportions vary depending on vintage although Merlot is usually the dominant variety (in some years making 75 to 80 percent of blend). Le Dragon de Quintus is a similar blend but with Merlot generally making up at least three-quarters of the final wine. The Saint-Emilion de Quintus often incorporates Cabernet Sauvignon into the mix – sometimes its presence is greater than the Cabernet Franc component, although Merlot remains dominant. The running of the château is overseen by Jean-Philippe Delmas, who also manages the wider Dillon estates. The group is headed up by Prince Robert of Luxembourg.
