      Detailed Description

The palate is an explosion of delicate flavors, nice and delightful mouthfeel. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish.

        Producer Information

Weingut Georg Breuer is an award-winning producer in the Rheingau region of Germany. It is best known for its white wines from the Riesling grape variety. There are 34 hectares (84 acres) of estate vineyards in Rüdesheim amd Rauenthal. Around 80 percent is planted to Riesling, with 10 percent of Pinot Noir and 4 percent of Pinot Gris. Smaller amounts of Pinot Blanc, Orleans and Heunisch (Gouais Blanc) account for the remainder. The latter pair of grape varieties are true rarities. Once common in the Rheingau, but thought extinct in the early 1980s, Orleans is only used by a couple of producers. Gouais Blanc is the ancestor of many of the world's famous grape varieties, but at the time of writing only three producers across the globe were listed on our database. Over half of the estate's vines are on the favored steep slopes towering over the Rhein. The best sites are 3.5ha of Berg Schlossberg, 2.2ha of Berg Rottland, 1.8ha of Berg Roseneck, and the 5.6ha Nonnenberg. The latter is owned outright. Yields vary from 4500 liters per hectare down towards 1500 for the best plots (481/160 US gallons per acre). No herbicides or pesticides are used, nor chemical fertilizer. Nitrogen levels are regulated by planting legumes between the rows. The estate is also of the Wurzelwerk project, along with Gunderloch in Rheinhessen and Jurtschitsch in Kamptal, Austria. Each provides grapes from one of their top vineyards, to be vinified in the other wineries. The estate was founded in 1880, and has been owned by the Breuer family since the start of the 20th Century. Under Georg Breuer (1910-82) the estate was enlarged and imports greatly increased. Vineyard ownership reached 15 hectares by the 1980s, with further expansion increasing the figure to its current level. Theresa Breuer currently manages the business. She was named Winemaker of the Year for 2016 in the major German magazine Falstaff. Notably, she took over in 2004, at the age of just 20, following the unexpected early passing of her father Bernhard. He had been instrumental in creating the estate's international reputation. But his daughter has, with the support of other family members, proved up to the task.
