Reviews:
- Wine Enthusiast: This is a particularly delicious bottling from one of the Adelaide Hills region’s most well-known names. Bright peach and citrus fruit bounce from the glass, with more delicate floral notes just behind. There’s almost none of the green veg pungency found in many New World Sauvignons. The palate offers equally vibrant fruit flavors. It glides along a creamy texture, finishing long and refreshing.
- James Suckling: A very strong vintage for this popular Adelaide Hills sauvignon, it sits in a deliciously ripe yet fresh zone and is bathed in peach, nectarine, green-mango and passion-fruit aromas and flavors. Delivered in straight-up, drinkable mode on release. Screw cap.
Producer Information
Shaw + Smith is a wine producer located in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. The company was founded by Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith MW, and the inaugural vintage was in 1990. Shaw + Smith is famous for its high-quality wines made from Chardonnay and Shiraz, as well as a range of other grape varieties. The estate is comprised of two vineyards in the Adelaide Hills: the Balhannah vineyard purchased in 1999; and the Lenswood vineyard, established in 2012. Balhannah's cool climate and free-draining sandy loam soils are well suited to grape varieties like Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, as well as Shiraz, which is used to make the single-vineyard Balhannah Vineyard Shiraz. Lenswood is planted on a hillside on fertile brown loam and clay soils, and is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Shaw + Smith uses a wide range of oak treatments in its wines, including new and old French barriques as well as larger 500-liter puncheons.
