Armand de Brignac | Ace of Spades Brut Rose (Double Magnum) - NV

Quite a deep pink with a hint of copper. Very fine bubbles. There is obvious red fruit on the nose, dry cherry and cranberry, but there's a meaty autolytic character. Dry on the palate, plenty of lemony character and acidity, there is still a touch of the dry red berry character, but it finishes dry and citrussy and would drink well with salmon, duck, or even grouse in season.

• Wine Spectator: A mouthwatering rosé Champagne, with a lively bead, this offers savory notes of slivered almond and fleur de sel along with layers of ripe raspberry and black cherry fruit, star anise and orange peel flavors. Delivers a lasting, vibrant finish.

• Decanter: A confident copper blush and an immediately seductive nose of soft spice, red currants and sweet almond. The blend here is dominated by the Pinots, with 50% Noir and 40% Meunier leaving only a whisper of elegant Chardonnay. The three contributory vintages in question are 2013, 2014 and 2015, youthful therefore, yet the wine does not lack for depth and complexity. A beguiling almost savoury depth is immediately evident, courtesy in no small measure to the quality of the red wine, 15% added as Pinot Noir from exceptionally old vines in the village of Ludes.

Armand de Brignac (also known as Ace of Spades after its logo) is a Champagne brand, partly-owned by the rapper and businessman Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter. It is best known for its distinctive gold bottling and for its association with hip hop culture. Armand de Brignac has small levels of production, and prices are among the highest for Champagne. The brand first appeared in a Jay-Z video in 2006, after the rapper had taken exception to comments Frederic Rouzaud (Louis Roederer CEO) had made about his association with Cristal. Jay-Z bought the brand in 2014, and Armand de Brignac has since been featured in several music videos, most famously in the 2014 song "Feeling Myself" by Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj. The Champagnes have received some top accolades, including a perfect 100-point rating from leading Spanish critic José Peñín for the flagship Gold Brut. This wine is presented in a gold-plated bottle, while Blanc de Blancs and the Blanc de Noirs (introduced in 2015) are silver-plated and the rosé is metallic pink. The brand is produced by Champagne Cattier which have been practicing viticultre in Chigny-les-Roses since 1625. Today, vineyards in Rilly-la-Montagne and Ludes are also included within the company's holdings. In the winery, each champagne bottled is a blend of three vintages, a unique practice adopted by Armand de Brignac. Together with Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter, the brand is partly-owned by LVMH's Moët Hennessy.
