Detailed Description
Detailed Description
Reyes’ repertoire of work is largely inspired by the ideas of the philosopher Epicurus, whose teachings on wellbeing are artfully translated into sculptures by Reyes. Here, he’s chosen one of his pieces, “Epicuro” (2016), a 1.8-meter tall sculpture he carved from volcanic rock, to portray with pepita. With this representation of “Epicuro,” the Casa Dragones crystal decanter’s typical delicate engravings encircling its neck and base have been traded for a single, elegantly hand-engraved design. Each of the 400 bottles made in this collection has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail and represent an approach to life. “Epicuro”, both the original sculpture and this portrayal, embodies the delight in freedom from pain and fear. By pivoting the question of “how to be good” into “how to be happy,” the philosopher helped open up the path to self-awareness and wellness as a form of peace. Very pleased to be a part of Reyes’ innovative artistic vision and to explore Mexican craftsmanship in new creative contexts.

Distillery Information
Father Juan de San Miguel, a Franciscan missionary born in Spain, founded the original Indian settlement in 1542 and named it San Miguel Viejo after his patron saint. By the end of the 16th century, San Miguel was a booming town, flourishing with agriculture, ranching and tanneries. It was then renamed San Miguel el Grande. The heroes of Mexico’s independence movement were born in San Miguel el Grande, including General Ignacio Allende, Father Miguel Hidalgo, José Marino and Juan Aldama. On March 8, 1826, the Guanajuato state government honored Allende’s heroism by renaming San Miguel El Grande to San Miguel de Allende.
