Even the most ardent fans of Japanese whisky would be forgiven not to have heard of the Matsui distillery. Located in Tottori, a coastal prefecture on southern Honshu mostly known for its sand dunes. It is also the location of Matsui Breweries, which makes traditional Japanese sake and Shochu, as well as some awesome whisky. This wonderful Tottori blended release was carefully matured for 23 year.

Matsui Whisky – The Tottori Blended Whisky Aged 23 Year Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: The aromas have alight fruit notes with malt and spice.

Palate: Smooth and soft with good sweetness and winter spice.

Finish: Finish is long, spicy and smooth.

Distillery Information

Matsui is historically known in Japan as both a sake brewery and shochu distillery. While the juice in Kurayoshi is 100% malted barley, the spirits themselves have been sourced from distilleries around Scotland before making their journey to Japan.
