Rhum Barbancourt Reserve du Domaine 15 Year Old Rum

Aptly named the Rhum Barbancourt 15 Year Old, this rum is made in the traditional French Caribbean style which uses fermented sugar cane juice instead of molasses which is more prevalent in Caribbean rums. After fermentation, the juice is then distilled twice being aged for 15 years in French Limousin oak barrels – the most sought after wood in the distilling world. The end result is a rhum that displays a relatively cognac-like character and lacks the unbridled sweetness of its darker Caribbean counterparts.

Nose: On the nose, the rhum yields a pleasing aroma of candied citrus fruits and roasted almonds.

Palate: Baked pears, cinnamon, toffee, butterscotch, oak, nuts, and lime zest on the palate.

Finish: An extraordinarily smooth finish interlaced with notes of spice, honey, and stewed fruits.

Société du Rhum Barbancourt, is one of Haiti's oldest, and its rum is one of the country's most famous exports, widely regarded as among the finest rums in the world.The family business began on March 18, 1862, producing rum directly from sugar cane juice. Dupré Barbancourt, a Frenchman from the cognac-producing region of Charente emigrated to Haiti, and founded his company at the end of 1862.
