Louis Billard is a brilliant, rising-star micro-négoce and estate project based in La Rochepot within the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, launched with an acclaimed debut vintage in 2022 by fifth-generation vigneron Louis Billard. Hailing from the family behind Domaine Billard Père et Fils, Louis built an elite international pedigree by spending two formative years working at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), followed by stints at Domaine Georges Roumier, South Africa's Newton Johnson, and Australia's By Farr. Leveraging exceptional connections, he manages and sources a mosaic of extraordinary plots spanning both the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits—ranging from Saint-Aubin and Meursault up to Volnay, Vosne-Romanée, and Clos de Vougeot. In the cellar, Billard practices a refined, precision-driven philosophy: white Chardonnays are whole-cluster pressed and fermented in barrels on fine lees, while his Pinot Noirs incorporate a high 50% to 100% whole-cluster inclusion—often aged in precious ex-DRC barrels—followed by a short tank settling before a very light, intentional sulfur addition. This meticulous craftsmanship results in deeply tensioned, chiseled, and crystalline wines that expertly combine classic Burgundian restraint with a striking, modern energy.
