Glasgow 1770 Sherry Cask Batch #1 is a limited-edition 6-year-old single malt that brings together equal proportions of the distillery's peated and unpeated spirit styles. Both components began maturation in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before receiving extended finishing in contrasting Ximénez-Spínola sherry hogsheads. The unpeated whisky was finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry, while the peated component spent more than three years in Medium Sherry casks, creating a rich balance between dark fruit sweetness and elegant peat smoke. Bottled at a robust batch strength of 55% ABV, this inaugural release combines raisins, orange oils and vanilla with polished oak, coffee and a lingering maritime touch.

Nose: Polished oak, cedarwood and fresh pencil shavings are joined by clementine, orange, toffee apple and vanilla cream, with a soft layer of sweet smoke.

Palate: Sweet peat smoke opens into raisins, dark fruits and waxy citrus oils. Candied orange peel and fresh orange oil add brightness, while vanilla and gentle oak spice bring depth and balance.

Finish: Gently drying and structured, with warming oak spice, lingering orange oil, a light saline edge and a prolonged thread of sweet smoke.

Distillery Information

Glasgow Distillery was founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, with the aim of bringing single malt Scotch whisky distilling back to Glasgow. The company takes its name from one of the city’s historic distilleries, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902, while the modern distillery operates from Hillington on the outskirts of Glasgow.
