A limited single-cask agricultural rum from Montebello in Guadeloupe, produced from fresh sugar-cane juice and matured in a 1991 Cognac cask numbered 859. The rum spent its maturation in a maritime container, an unusual Montebello technique that exposes the cask to concentrated heat and humidity. Bottled at cask strength without filtration or reduction, it delivers an exceptionally rich and complex profile of vanilla, caramel, coffee, exotic fruit, spice, and pastry.

Nose: Elegant and complex, with vanilla, caramelized notes, roasted coffee, peppery spice, and subtle oak.

Palate: Rich and expressive, with candied fruit, vanilla, caramel, exotic fruit, warm spices, and roasted coffee.

Finish: Warm, long, and gourmand, with lingering chocolate, spices, dried fruit, and delicate oak.

Distillery Information

Distillerie Montebello is a historic Guadeloupe rum producer based in Capesterre-Belle-Eau, known for its distinctive agricultural rum production. The distillery uses freshly harvested sugar cane and is notable for crushing cane with the only steam-powered cane crusher still operating in Guadeloupe. Montebello also pioneered the use of maritime containers for aging, creating a distinctive tropical maturation environment. The ELIKO Contemporain was selected by Karibia-Rhum from this unusual cellar as a single cask, highlighting the character of Montebello's rum and its Cognac-barrel maturation.
