Vagabond Spirits Papillon Batch #2 3 Year and 5 Month old Rum | 500ML

A 3-year-and-5-month-old single-cask rum from Guadeloupe, distilled at Distillerie Bonne Mère and independently bottled by Vagabond Spirits. The rum spent three years aging tropically at the distillery before receiving a five-month finish in a cask that previously held a Vin Doux Naturel made from Grenache grapes from La Clape. That wine cask itself had spent 12 years aging in a seaside cave near Gruissan, giving the rum an unusual combination of ripe fruit, caramelized sweetness, and subtle maritime character.

Nose: Rich rancio and red fruits with apricot, plum, raisins, caramelized sugar, and a subtle saline freshness.

Palate: Dense and indulgent, with slow-cooked red-fruit compote, caramelized sugar, candied citrus, ripe plum, and a touch of acidity.

Finish: Long, rich, and remarkably well integrated, with concentrated fruit, caramel, gentle salinity, and warming spice.

Distillery Information

Vagabond Spirits is an independent French rum bottler founded by Nicolas Petit and based in Marseille, with a focus on experimental maturation, unusual cask finishes, and creative blends. The company developed the Papillon series around a common Guadeloupe rum base finished in casks previously used for sweet wines from different European wine regions. Distillerie Bonne Mère provides the Guadeloupean rum for this second Papillon release, while Vagabond Spirits handles the selection, maturation, and bottling.
