Teeling Marsala Cask 16 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey is the second release in the Phoenix Legends Series, developed in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame. Distilled in Dublin from 100% malted barley, the whiskey was initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before receiving an extended two-year finish in Italian Marsala wine casks. This additional maturation contributes layers of dried fruit, nutty caramel, rich chocolate, and crème brûlée sweetness, balanced by warming spice and toasted oak. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, it showcases Teeling’s experimental approach to Irish single malt whiskey.

Nose: Nutty caramel and dried cherries lead, followed by crème brûlée, toasted oak, and hints of chocolate and sweet wine.

Palate: Rich caramel and dried fruit mingle with dark chocolate, burnt sugar, and warming spice. Marsala cask influence adds a wine-like sweetness and nutty depth.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering caramelized sugar, dried fruit, chocolate, and gentle oak spice.

Distillery Information

Teeling Whiskey Company was founded in Dublin in 2012 by brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling, continuing a family connection to Irish whiskey that dates back to 1782. The company opened its Dublin distillery in 2015, helping revive whiskey production in the historic Liberties district. Teeling is known for combining traditional Irish distilling methods with innovative cask maturation and finishing techniques.
