Macallan 16 Year Old 2002 Cask #24.130 - (The Scotch Malt Whisky Society) Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Honey, orange peel and fresh flowers with vanilla, coconut and soft oak. Hints of sweet pastry and ripe fruit gradually emerge, giving the nose a bright and elegant character.

Palate: Smooth and rich, with Danish pastry, raspberry, orange zest and creamy vanilla. Coconut and dark chocolate add depth, while gentle oak spice and a touch of dried fruit develop underneath.

Finish: Long, warming and subtly sweet, with lingering dark chocolate, citrus, vanilla and coconut. The bourbon cask leaves a clean, polished oak character alongside the delicate fruitiness.

Distillery Information

The Macallan was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid on the Easter Elchies estate beside the River Spey. The distillery became particularly renowned for its rich, full-bodied spirit and its historic reliance on carefully selected sherry-seasoned oak casks, helping establish the distinctive Macallan style. In 1999, The Edrington Group acquired Highland Distillers, bringing Macallan firmly into its portfolio and supporting major investment in the brand. A new distillery and visitor centre opened in 2018, representing a major modernization of production while retaining the estate’s historic identity. Macallan remains one of Speyside’s most internationally recognized single malt producers, with independent bottlings such as this SMWS release offering a rare look at the spirit through different cask styles.
