The whisky spent a dozen years maturing, finishing with a stay in little oloroso sherry octaves, ramping up layers of citrus, walnuts, and sticky date sweetness. The distillery is officially undisclosed, though the nickname Farkness means we're not left completely in the dark here.

Nose: Rich cream sherry, overripe fruit, orange peel, walnuts, dates, mint, dried berries, toasted oak, and sweet malt.

Palate: Powerful and full-bodied, with dates, walnuts, orange peel, raisins, rich sherry, dark fruit, sweet malt, gentle spice, and toasted oak.

Finish: Long and richly sherried, with citrus peel, walnuts, dried fruit, fermented grape notes, ripe fruit, toasted oak, and lingering spice.

Distillery Information

Darkness Whisky is an independent bottling range known for giving Scotch whisky an additional maturation in specially coopered 64-litre sherry octave casks. The small format provides a much higher oak-to-whisky ratio than conventional butts and hogsheads, allowing the finishing cask to exert a particularly pronounced influence. Darkness releases have featured Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, Moscatel, Amontillado, and other sherry finishes across a wide range of Scottish distilleries. The range is part of the independent whisky operations of Atom Brands, with the emphasis firmly on bold cask-driven expressions.
